January 9 @ 8:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Computer Society Faculty of Science University of Jaffna in collaboration with the Career Guidance Cell of the Faculty of Science organized a programme titled “Beyond the Algorithm: Architecting AI Solutions for Business Value and Societal Impact” on 09th January 2026 from 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. at CSL 3 & 4, Department of Computer Science.

The programme was conducted for students of the Faculty of Science with the objective of providing practical insights into designing impactful artificial intelligence solutions that address real-world business and societal challenges.

The resource person for the session was Arjuna Swaminathan, Chief AI Officer and former IBM Principal. He delivered an engaging and informative lecture on the importance of aligning AI technologies with human needs, organizational goals, and social impact.

The session focused on several key areas, including:

  • Understanding why effective AI starts with real needs
  • Learning to design AI solutions that solve the right problems
  • Connecting computer science theory with real-world impact

During the programme, students were encouraged to think critically about the ethical, practical, and strategic aspects of artificial intelligence development. The discussion also highlighted the importance of innovation, problem identification, and user-centered approaches in creating meaningful AI solutions.

A total of 60 students from the Faculty of Science participated in the programme and actively engaged in the discussions and interactive activities conducted during the session.
