SUMMARY:Competitive Exams Preparation – Lecture Series
DESCRIPTION:The Career Guidance Unit of the University of Jaffna successfully organized the “Competitive Exams Preparation – Lecture Series” on 08th April 2026 from 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. at the Library Auditorium. \nThe programme was conducted for students from the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Science with the objective of enhancing students’ aptitude skills and preparedness for competitive examinations. \nThe resource person for the session was Sivapathasundrampillai Navaneethan\, Deputy Director of Education (Mathematics)\, Provincial Department of Education\, Northern Province. He delivered an engaging lecture on Aptitude\, focusing on logical reasoning\, analytical thinking\, numerical problem-solving\, and examination strategies commonly required in competitive examinations. \nDuring the session\, students were introduced to practical techniques for improving speed\, accuracy\, and confidence in answering aptitude-related questions. The interactive discussions and exercises helped participants strengthen their problem-solving abilities and examination readiness. \nA total of 26 students from the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Science participated in the programme and actively engaged in the learning activities conducted during the session. \nThe lecture series served as a valuable opportunity for students to improve their aptitude skills and enhance their confidence in facing future competitive examinations and career opportunities.

DESCRIPTION:The Department of Media Studies University of Jaffna organized a guest lecture titled “Introduction on Sex\, Gender\, Sexuality and Communication; Gender Equality” on 22nd April 2026 from 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. at the Arts Seminar Hall. \nThe programme was conducted for 3rd year\, 1st semester students of the Department of Media Studies\, Faculty of Arts with the objective of creating awareness and understanding about gender-related concepts\, effective communication\, and the importance of gender equality in society and media. \nThe session was facilitated by K. Gauthaman\, Career Guidance Counselor of the Career Guidance Unit\, University of Jaffna. He conducted an informative and interactive lecture on: \n\nIntroduction on Sex\, Gender\, Sexuality and Communication\nGender Equality\n\nDuring the session\, students were introduced to key concepts related to sex\, gender identity\, sexuality\, communication\, and social perceptions of gender. The discussion also highlighted the importance of equality\, respect\, inclusiveness\, and responsible communication practices within academic\, professional\, and social environments. \nA total of 22 third-year students from the Department of Media Studies participated in the programme and actively engaged in the discussions and interactive activities conducted during the session. \nThe guest lecture served as a valuable platform for students to develop awareness and critical understanding of gender-related issues and their relevance in communication and media studies.

Prof. T. Velnampy – Vice Chancellor\, Ms. Sivagowri Rajashanthan – Senior Lecturer in the Department of English Language Teaching\, Director\, Centre for Gender Equity and Equality & IVLP Alumna\, Ms. Kosalai Mathan – Senior Lecturer & Head of the Department of Law & IVLP Alumna\, Prof. M. Siyamalan – Director\, Career Guidance Unit\, Mr. K. Gauthaman – Career Guidance Counselor\, Prof. K. Pakeerathan – Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and the Director of University Business Linkage\, and Mr. S. The session introduced participants to higher education opportunities in the United States\, scholarship programmes\, application procedures\, and available academic resources for students seeking international educational experiences. \nHarijeyan Ananthamoorthy\, Data Analytics Consultant at Digital Tourism (Pvt) Ltd. and YF Alumni\, delivered an engaging session titled “AI in Everyday Life: How the U.S. is Shaping Smart Technology.” The presentation explored the growing influence of artificial intelligence in modern society and highlighted innovative technological developments and applications in daily life. \nShokina Kirubakaran\, WiSci 2024 Counsellor and YF Alumni\, conducted interactive sessions on “How to Use eLibraryUSA for Research & Learning” and “STEAM for Social Good: Using Technology to Solve Real World Problems.” Participants were introduced to digital learning resources\, research tools\, and the importance of integrating science\, technology\, engineering\, arts\, and mathematics to address contemporary social challenges. \nThe programme attracted 99 participants\, including students and staff members\, who actively participated in the sessions and discussions throughout the day. The event provided an excellent platform for academic enrichment\, technological awareness\, and personal development. \nThe USBus Programme successfully inspired participants to explore global educational opportunities\, embrace technological innovation\, and apply knowledge creatively for social impact.

The event provided a valuable platform for learning\, networking\, and developing essential life and career skills. \nThe USBus Programme served as an excellent opportunity to expose participants to global perspectives\, practical knowledge\, and emerging trends in leadership\, cybersecurity\, and entrepreneurship.
