From Code to Strategy: My Journey from IBM Principal to Chief AI Officer

The Computer Society Faculty of Science University of Jaffna in collaboration with the Career Guidance Cell of the Faculty of Science organized a programme titled “From Code to Strategy: My Journey from IBM Principal to Chief AI Officer” on 06th January 2026 from 1.00 p.m. to 3.00 p.m. at the Physics Mini Auditorium.

The programme was conducted for students of the Faculty of Science with the objective of providing insights into career opportunities in artificial intelligence and technology-related industries while inspiring students to develop both technical and leadership competencies.

The resource person for the session was Arjuna Swaminathan, Chief AI Officer and former IBM Principal. He shared his professional journey from software development and technical leadership to strategic innovation and executive leadership in the field of artificial intelligence.

The session focused on several important areas, including:

• Discussing different AI career paths
• Learning essential technical skills
• Understanding the leadership mindset needed for innovation

During the programme, students gained valuable exposure to emerging trends in artificial intelligence, professional growth opportunities in the technology sector, and the importance of combining technical expertise with strategic thinking and leadership skills.

A total of 56 students from the Faculty of Science participated in the programme and actively engaged in the discussions and interactive activities conducted during the session.

The programme served as a valuable platform for students to explore career opportunities in AI and technology while gaining inspiration from an experienced industry professional.
